St. Lucia holidays
St. Lucia is famous for its dramatic physical beauty. Towering green mountains covered in lush tropical forest form a backdrop for its beautiful sandy beaches. An incredibly chequered history has seen St. Lucia change hands more than a dozen times and as a member of the British Commonwealth, the island’s official language is English. Its second language is a legacy of its past – an almost impenetrable French patois.
- In the north is the capital Castries, with a busy hive of a harbour, whilst in the south picturesque villages are perched above the sea and the oldest town on the island, Soufrière, lies at the foot of the magnificent 2,600 feet twin Piton mountain cones. In between are banana plantations, hills and valleys cloaked in rainforest, surrounded by beautiful bays and coves of golden sand and crystal clear waters that reflect colours of emerald greens and azure blues.
- We recommend visitors to the island experience the open air markets with their irresistible selection of tropical fruit, vegetables and fish, as well as basketware, pottery, hand-screened and batik clothing.
- Don’t miss a day trip by boat along the dramatic and spectacular coast, or take a trip to the world’s only ‘drive-in’ volcano.
- The National Rainforest, comprising 19,000 acres, is a delight for birdwatchers, hikers and nature lovers alike.
- For those who love to spend their holidays as close to the water as possible, the large areas of marine national park on the island provide wonderful diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing and sailing opportunities
- Jazz Festival held in May is a very popular and memorable event but we recommend you book early.
- St. Lucia is a beautiful island with lush mountains, tropical forests and the majesty of the Pitons, a photographer’s delight and an island that is unspoilt and picturesque. Our hotels on St Lucia include the best of the island’s luxury resorts, north and south.
